Lawrence Wiley Griffin, AKA, Pop and jokingly called the Father of the Welsh Mafia was born March 16,1941 in Indianapolis, Indiana to Elmer Wiley Griffin and Pauline Jones Griffin. He passed away December 24, 2022, surrounded by his family who deeply admired and respected him. Lawrence went to Dallas ISD schools in the 1950's and then continued his education at UNT where he earned a BA in Business Management. He then took a job with the US Small Business Administration where was hired for the New Orleans office. It was there he worked to assist in disaster relief and where he met his life partner, Sharon Lirette Griffin. Lawrence and Sharon were married on December 7, 1968. In 1970, Lawrence was transferred to the Dallas SBA office. It was there in North Texas, largely Waxahachie where Lawrence and Sharon created and maintained disasters of their own for over 54 years! Pop and Sharon had two sons, Brian and Jason who grew into fine, dignified men. Those men each married. Brian married Lisa Marie Day and they have Corinne, Maxwell and Ian. Jason married Larisa Michelle Bourgeois and they have Elodie Claire. Lawrence was a member of the Sons of the American Revolution from December 2, 2011, to the present. Lawrence was an avid Dallas Cowboy fan and would tape all games so he could watch without commercial interruptions. Pop never lost faith in his Cowboys. Pop was also known for taking bacon and left-over meats from his plate at restaurants and wrapping them in a napkin to take to his very blessed puppy dog who was usually in the car waiting for their return. Pop also loved his Sonic cup of vanilla ice cream EVERY DAY! Pop is preceded in death by his parents and his sister Pamela Sue Griffin Fain. He is survived by his wife Sharon and family as well as his sister Polly Griffin Shaw and numerous wonderful nieces and nephews. He also left behind his fur human, Gertrude Griffin. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to the Charcot Marie Tooth (CMT Foundation) and the American Heart Association. All donations made to the Charcot Marie Tooth Research Foundation, or the American Heart Association will be doubled until December 31, 2022. Lawrence Griffin’s Celebration of Life will be held at the Slay Memorial Funeral Home in Aubrey, TX on Friday, January 6, 2023, located at 400 S. Hwy. 377. A visitation will be at 1 pm and the service will follow at 2 pm.
