Shirley Joy Smothermon, 88, of Prosper, TX, passed away Saturday, March 22, 2025 in Prosper. Shirley was born September 8, 1936 in Celina, TX to V. C. and Pauline (Griffin) Spradley. Shirley married the love of her life, Grady Len Smothermon in Prosper on January 29, 1955. Grady was a life-long farmer in Denton and Collin counties. Shirley was a perfect farmer's wife. She would be seen taking hot meals to the field or pulling a cotton trailer to the gin in town. A life-long resident of Prosper, Shirley was known for playing high school basketball and playing the piano at First Baptist of Prosper. Grady and Shirley were the loving parents of Bobby, Cathy, and Jimbo. She always welcomed and loved all her children’s friends, and their friends in turn loved her dearly. A muddy football game could be found in her front yard for years when Bobby was young. She was a fan of all youth sports and a huge supporter of FFA and show cattle. She was loved by all who knew her. As her grandchildren came along, she was known as Granny, and she was loved by all the kids in town. She worshipped and dearly loved each one of her grandchildren. Shirley is survived by her two sons, Bobby Smothermon and wife Pam of Tioga, TX and Jimmy Lee Smothermon of Prosper; daughter, Cathy Ann Gibson and husband Danny of Prosper; four grandchildren, D'Ann Holt and husband Tim of Prosper, Sarah Gibson of Lewisville, TX, Len Smothermon and wife Nicole of Collinsville, TX, and Cayla Fanning and husband Wes of Tuscola, TX; seven great-grandchildren, Everly Holt, Shay Smothermon, Grady Smothermon, Zane Smothermon, Raylan Fanning, Kaycee Fanning, and Kaylee Fanning; brother, Jim “Hop” Spradley; niece, Jennifer Spradley Taylor and husband Stephen and their son Brady; and nephew, Jody Spradley and wife Taylor and their children, Sawyer and Stevie. Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Grady; parents, V. C. and Pauline; sister-in-law, Carol Spradley; and two nephews, Denny Spradley and Dusty Spradley.
