June 25, 1929 - December 21, 2021
Doris Arlene Faulkner, 92 of Pilot Point, TX, passed away Tuesday, December 21, 2021, at her residence. She was born to the late William and Alice Rose Small Miller in Chicago, IL. Before moving to Texas, Doris was a member of the Church of the Brethren in Dayton, OH where she served as an organist. She was also a member of the Florist Club and served as a cub scout and girl scout leader. She was highly creative throughout her life trying everything from painting, basket weaving and stain glass windows to copper enameling. She enjoyed painting, quilting, sewing, flower gardening, camping, boating, and hiking. Doris’ longing for world travels was fulfilled later in life, first with her longtime women’s group friends and then with her husband of 25 years, Jack Faulkner who loved it as much as she did. They were a great fit for each other and spent many happy and adventurous years together. Her most favorite was sewing and she was an expert seamstress and quilter for many years donating her quilts to charity through the Richardson Senior Center. Doris will be missed and continually loved by all who knew her. Our sweet Mother was always a strong woman who showed us right from wrong, how to be strong and change things if we do not like our situation. As children Mom was always making holidays special with homemade costumes or Easter dresses, and shirts for the boys or our favorite cake on our birthday. She always loved dogs and worked at a veterinarian clinic for 8 years during which she would occasionally bring in a sweet dog because they needed a home. We will miss her warm smiles and wonderful sense of humor, but she is in our hearts forever. She is survived by her sons, Joe Simmons, and Mike Simmons and his wife, Elke; her daughters, Sandy Pylant and her husband, Ron, Melody McCullough and her husband, Tim; daughters by marriage, Cindy Cummins, Linda Stengel and husband Sid, and Margaret Parry and husband Mike; grandchildren, Marly McCullough, Shelly Gordy and her husband, William, Brian Pylant and his wife, Julie, Coby Pylant, Megan Parry, Michael Parry, Eric Stengel, Andy Stengel, Emily Stengel, Quinn Holtman, Casey Daly, and Kip Cummins; nine great-grandchildren; her sister, Joyce Wahsum; and eleven nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Alice; husband, Jack Faulkner; and brothers, Bill Miller, Gene Miller, and Dennis Miller. A memorial service will be held 2:00PM, Monday, January 10, 2022 at Slay Memorial Chapel in Aubrey, TX. Online condolences may be shared at www.slaymemorialfuneralhome.com. Arrangements are under the direction of Bradley R. Shotts and Slay Memorial Funeral Center.
