    Dorothy Mae Yarbrough

    March 2, 1927 - February 25, 2019

    Dorothy Mae Yarbrough, 91, of Pilot Point, TX, passed away Monday, February 25, 2019 in Pilot Point.  She was born March 2, 1927 in Pilot Point to Ferdinand Carl and Mary A. (Michalek) Berend.  Dorothy married MB Yarbrough on February 4, 1943 in Pilot Point and together they owned and operated Yarbrough Grocery and Market for 41 1/2 years. Dorothy is survived by her two daughters, Cheryl Haynie and husband Brady of Valley View, TX and Carol Doughty of Denton, TX; six grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; and one sister, Betty Jeffcoat and husband Billy of Waxahachie, TX. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ferdinand and Mary; husband, MB; four brothers, Lonnie, Richard, Albert, and Gene Berend; and two sisters, Pauline Mages and Gertrude Heitzman. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00AM, Thursday, February 28, 2019 at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Pilot Point, TX with Fr. John Martin officiating.  Interment will follow at Pilot Point Community Cemetery.   Dorothy received the Pilot Point Chamber of Commerce "Citizen of the Year" and the Business and Professional Women's Club of Pilot Point awards.  Dorothy was a life-long member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church. She was a twenty five year member of the ST. Thomas choir and served on the Parish Council and the Cemetery Association.   Dorothy also served 25 years with the Goodfellows Association and worked with the United Way. As Dorothy was an ambassador of the Pilot Point community, memorial donations may be made to the Pilot Point Community Cemetery, Pilot Point Library, or the Pilot Point Educational Foundation.  Online condolences may be shared at www.slaymemorialfuneralhome.com. Arrangements are under the direction of Terri Slay and Slay Memorial Funeral Center.
