Elizabeth Ann Henzler Pels was born on November 27, 1923 to William A. and Elizabeth Bauer Henzler in the Friendship Community near Pilot Point, TX and passed away April 30, 2016. She attended St. Thomas School and graduated from Pilot Point High School in 1940. She worked as a riveter at North American Aviation in Grand Prairie during World War II and played catcher on its championship softball team. She also worked at Russell Newman in Pilot Point for about six years. She married Joe W. Pels on July 7, 1945 at St. Thomas Church. Joe and Elizabeth celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary at St. Thomas on July 9, 1995.Elizabeth enjoyed quilting and was an accomplished seamstress, making wedding gowns and bridesmaids' dresses for several weddings. She was very active in her Church and in the community. She volunteered at the polls on election days. While a life-long member of St. Thomas Church, her involvement included: serving as secretary of the Cemetery Association; working on the Centennial Committee and helping to put together the Centennial book; serving in the Altar Society; sewing baptismal garments; serving as a lector; teaching religious education; and singing in the choir. She is survived by her six children Betty (Joe) Pulsifer, Kay (Jack) Watts, Mary Jane (Jerry) Smith, Billy (Teresa), David (Susan) and Tim, eight grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her brother and sister-in-law Ben and Rose Ann Henzler.She is predeceased by her husband Joe, grandparents August Sr. and Katherine Henzler and Joseph L. and Anna Bauer, parents William and Elizabeth Henzler, and sister Loretta Henzler Brunette.The Family extends special thanks and appreciation to her healthcare providers and caregivers, including Flower Mound Assisted Living, Hollymead Nursing Home, and Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Flower Mound.A rosary will be held at 7:00 PM, Thursday, May 5, 2016 with visitation following until 8:30PM at Slay Memorial Chapel in Pilot Point, TX. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00AM, Friday, May 6, 2016 at St. Thomas Aquinas Church in Pilot Point, TX with Fr. Tom Kennedy officiating. Burial will follow at St. Thomas Cemetery in Pilot Point, TX.
