Joseph “Scottie” Earl Kirby, 80, of Nocona, TX, passed away Wednesday, December 30, 2020 in Wichita Falls, TX. Scottie was born March 5, 1940 in Aubrey, TX to Riley Jefferson Kirby and Lillie Katherine Yarbrough. He married Mary Frances Matthews on November 28, 1963 in Martinsville, VA. Scottie served in the US Marines and then became a pastor. Scottie worked in ministry for over 40 years and in numerous churches, Fulton Creek Friends, Damascus Friends, Hampton First Friends and Piney Woods Friends. He was an amazing storyteller. He was an avid reader and loved Louis Lamour books and anything written by CS Lewis. Scottie is survived by his sons, Jerry Kirby and wife, Mandy of Pilot Point, TX and Jeff Kirby and wife, Lanee of Asheboro, NC; daughter, Libby Colon of Gainesville, GA; ten grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; brother, Dwight Kirby and wife Mary of Nocona, TX; nephews, Chance Kirby of Pilot Point, TX and Justin Kirby; and several great-nieces and nephews. Scottie was preceded in death by his parents, Riley and Lillie; wife, Mary; granddaughter, Chelsea Anne Kirby; and brother-in-law, James Matthews. Visitation will be held 6:00PM, Tuesday, January 5, 2021 at Slay Memorial Funeral Center in Aubrey, TX. A funeral service will follow at 7:00PM with Dwayne Edwards officiating and a special video message from Wayne Evans. Committal will be on Wednesday January 6, 2021 at 10:00AM at Pilot Point Community Cemetery in Pilot Point, TX. Online condolences may be shared at www.slaymemorialfuneralhome.com.
