    Mary Elizabeth Owens

    October 2, 1942 - May 20, 2015

Mary Elizabeth (Dean) Owens, 72, of Aubrey, departed this world for heaven on Wednesday, May 20, 2015. Mary was born in Green Valley, TX on October 2, 1942 to John and Opal (Cundiff) Dean. Mary grew up on a farm with her parents and six siblings. She became a high school graduate in 1961 from Denton High School. During her senior year of high school she began dating James R. Owens. Seventeen year old, love-struck Mary wrote "He's the best boy I've really ever loved or cared anything about." This love grew, lasting nearly 54 years. Together Mary and James had two children, Deborah Clayton and Terry. Mary worked at Josten's as a stone setter for 28 years. In this time she used her love of photography to take photos of many events and made many dear friendships. Mary's devotion to her friends and family compared to none. She was a most generous, loving, and patient woman. She enjoyed traveling with her husband throughout the U.S. in their travel trailer, taking their two grandchildren with them. She is survived by her husband, James of Aubrey; son, Terry Owens of Tioga; daughter, Debbie and husband Greg Clayton of Aubrey; granddaughter, Jennifer Silva; grandson, Brian Clayton; grandson-in-law, Andrew Silva; two great-grandsons, Adrian and Henry Silva. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Henry Dean; and sister, Dorothy Gaines. Visitation will be held 6:00PM-8:00PM, Friday, May 22, 2015 at Slay Memorial Chapel of Aubrey. A funeral service will be held at 11:00AM, Saturday, May 23, 2015 at New Hope Baptist Church in Aubrey, TX with Rev. Sam Redfearn officiating. Burial will follow at Belew Cemetery in Aubrey. Online condolences may be shared at www.slaymemorialfuneralhome.com. Services are under the direction of Terri Slay and Slay Memorial Funeral Center, Aubrey.
