Robert Campbell Ellis, 90, passed away Friday, July 30, 2021 in Pilot Point, Texas. Bob was born August 4, 1930 in Des Moines, Iowa to Robert LeRoy Ellis and Elizabeth Harriet Campbell. He was married to his wife, Waletta “Billie” Jean, for 64 years until her passing in September, 2016. Bob graduated from Lincoln High School in Des Moines, Iowa in 1948. He joined the Air Force that same year and achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant. He served in Korea from 1950 to 1952. In 1955, Bob graduated from Drake University College of Pharmacy in Des Moines, Iowa and practiced pharmacy for more than fifty years. He owned and operated Ellis Drug Store in Rock Island, Illinois for many years, as well as the Koffee Break, also in Rock Island, and Ellis’s Andalusia Café in Andalusia, Illinois. Bob was active in a number of professional, fraternal, and charitable organizations. While president of the Andalusia Illinois Lions Club, he was instrumental in the creation of Lions Park in Andalusia. A long-time member of the Elks, Bob served as Exalted Ruler of the Denton, Texas Elks Club for two years. Bob is survived by his children, Robert V. Ellis of Albuquerque, New Mexico; Brice Bloom-Ellis and wife Ilene, of St. Louis, Missouri; Bradley Ellis and wife Grace, of Maunaloa, Hawaii; Marla Jean Gaby and husband Craig, of Pilot Point, Texas; and Amy Kaster of La Marque, Texas; fifteen grandchildren and twentyfour great-grandchildren; brother, Bill Ellis of Urbandale, Iowa; sisters, Barbara Burke of Iowa City, Iowa and Beth Olson of Grenada Hills, California. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert LeRoy and Elizabeth; wife, Waletta; brother, Bruce Ellis; and infant sister Brenda Ellis. A graveside service will be held at 1:00 PM, Monday, August 2, 2021 at Pilot Point Community Cemetery in Pilot Point, Texas. Online condolences may be shared at www.slaymemorialfuneralhome.com.
