Thelma Louise Ames was called home to our Lord on Friday, October 12, 2018. She was born May 20, 1934 in Commerce, OK to Raymond Elvis and Annis Mae Pierce. Thelma married Virgil Burdett Ames on September 29, 1957 in Ozark, AR. The couple moved to Texas and settled in Krugerville in 1969, where they built a house and raised their two children, Jan and Scott. Thelma served as a Girl Scout leader from 1969-1973. She was a dedicated and hard worker at Kroger for 23 years where she made friends with every customer she interacted with. She retired from Kroger in 1990, but continued to work for several more years at Walmart, Aubrey Elementary, Montessori Method School, and many elections. Thelma was an active and engaged member of First Baptist Aubrey, now First Rock Fellowship. She loved to travel, quilt, embroidery, and work in the yard with Virgil, especially growing and marveling at her bluebonnets each spring. Thelma was known for her feisty sense of humor and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.Thelma was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil; parents, Raymond and Annis Pierce; son, Scott Ames; and brother, Jack Pierce.Thelma is survived by her daughter, Jan and husband Roger Ayers of Denton, TX; granddaughters, Kelly and husband Rob Spry of Denton, TX and Kacy and husband Mark Ziegler of Denton, TX; three beautiful great-grandchildren, Kyle, Hailey, and Cora Ziegler; daughter-in-law, Linda Ames of Madill, OK; brother, Raymond Pierce and wife Annelle of Van Buren, AR; and sister-in-law, Cynne Pierce of Chillicothe, MO.Visitation will be held 5:00-7:00PM, Tuesday, October 16, 2018 at Slay Memorial Chapel in Aubrey, TX. Funeral services will begin at 10:00AM, Wednesday, October 17, 2018 at Slay Memorial Chapel in Aubrey, TX with Chris Walden officiating.
