Eva Jean Cunningham, 87, of Houston, passed away on Thursday March 20th, 2014 at Bayou Manor Nursing Center. Eva Jean was born May 28, 1926, in Celina, TX to Lee Van and Jessie Pearl (Garrison) Cunningham. Visitation will be on Monday evening Mar. 24, 2014 from 6-8 at the Slay Memorial Funeral Center in Pilot Point. Funeral services will be on Tuesday Mar. 25, 2014 at 10 AM at the First United Methodist Church in Pilot Point with the Dr. Jim Porter officiating. Burial will follow at Pilot Point Community Cemetery where four generations of her family are buried. Pallbearers will be Glenn Tucker, Courtney and David Hall, Jim Garrison and Colin and Reid Porter. Eva is survived by two nieces, Lauren Cunningham Tucker and husband Glenn of Alexandria, VA and Leah Adele Cunningham Hall and husband Courtney, of Ruston, LA. Eva Jean also has five great-nieces and nephews, Virginia Tucker, Emily Hall, Paige Hall Crawford, David Hall, and Stephen Hall; and one great-great-nephew, Ayers Christian Crawford. She is also survived by cousins, Dr. Rebecca Porter Millikin and husband Dr. Lee Millikin and Dr. Jim Porter and wife Stephanie, all of Pilot Point, and numerous other cousins along with longtime friend Rose Green Morris of Houston. She is preceded in death by her sister, Mary Jo Cunningham Ross, and her brother Lee Van Cunningham, Jr. Ms. Cunningham graduated from Byrd High School in Shreveport, LA and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management from Louisiana Tech University. She has two endowed professorships at the university as well. Eva Jean was employed at Exxon Corporation in Houston, TX for forty-one years where she served for many years as the executive assistant to the president of USA Exxon. She retired in 1986. A loving aunt, she was dedicated to her family and was a long time member and volunteer of the First Presbyterian Church in Houston. Eva was involved in many organizations, including, Daughters of the American Revolution - Samuel Sorrell Chapter, a charter member of Clayton Library of Friends, and a charter member of Alpha Chi Omega. Eva Jean spent many enjoyable hours researching and discussing family genealogy with others. The family extends a special thanks to the staff of Bayou Manor Nursing Care in Houston, where she lived for the last five years, who cared for her with loving kindness.
