Karen Richale Edgeworth Mattson, a beacon of love and faith, passed away unexpectedly on August 30, 2024, in Aubrey, Tx. Born on December 9, 1974, in Rome, GA, Karen's journey through life was marked by her selfless nature and the joy she found in simple pleasures. Karen is remembered by loved ones for being honest, dependable, and willing to help anyone in need. Although Karen came from humble beginnings, she often spoke of the goodness of God and never hesitated to tell others that God had blessed her abundantly. For over six years, Karen dedicated herself to the children and families at Monaco Elementary School where her nurturing presence was felt by all. Karen's hands were rarely still, as she found joy in cooking and sharing meals with those she loved at Monaco Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO). She was a true “foodie” at heart and a magnificent cook. Not only was she passionate about food and cooking, but she enjoyed the entire process of procuring, preparing, and creatively designing menus and recipes. Karen loved making people happy. Karen was also involved in Lovepacs, engaging communities to feed children in need. Karen has served as the leader of Lovepacs Aubrey for the past five years. She was passionate about feeding kids and distributed food through the 20 schools in her area, serving hundreds of students each month. Her true gift was connecting with people from every corner of the community and bringing them together to accomplish a common mission. And she firmly believed that ANYONE, no matter the age, can make a difference, and she showed us daily how to do that. Karen had a life-long love of painting and making crafts. She created beautiful items with those hard-working hands. She never tired of giving of her time and talents. Karen also reflected her deep faith and commitment to her church family at Grace Avenue United Methodist Church where she was a cherished member. Her life was a living example of Philippians 2:3-4, “Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests, but each of you to the interests of others.” Karen did have a servant’s heart! Her love for life was evident in her varied interests, which included going to the beach, immersing herself in a good book or the Bible, engaging in crosswords, crafting and Alabama football. Karen’s dry wit, brilliantly acute mind and warm smile will be missed by all who had the good fortune to know her. Above all, Karen cherished the time spent with her beloved son, Gabe, weaving a tapestry of memories that will be treasured forever. Karen was preceded in death by her husband, Eric Mattson, an aunt Dolores King, grandmothers JoAnn Smith and Viola Edgeworth. Her legacy lives on through her son, Gabe Mattson and stepdaughter, Amber Mattson, her mother Paula Allman (Darrell), father Rich Edgeworth (Rhonda), brother Joe Edgeworth (Jamie), and three adored nephews Warner Edgeworth, Wyatt Edgeworth, and Whitman Edgeworth., all of whom she loved deeply. Karen also loved her father in law Tony Mattson (Candy), uncles Dale Smith (Janie), David Smith, Pastor Mike Smith (Sheri), aunts Ann Harris and Lynn Vaughn and many cousins. She also leaves behind her beloved dog, Buddy, who she snuggled with every night. A Celebration of Life for Karen Mattson will be held at 5:00 pm, Friday, September 6, 2024, at Grace Avenue United Methodist Church located in Frisco, TX with Reverend Billy Echols-Richter officiating and Slay Memorial Funeral Home directing. A private interment will be held at a later date.
