Ouida June (Bankhead) Garner, 94, passed away, Tuesday, December 31, 2024, in Denton, TX. She was born June 13, 1930, in Waco, TX, to Otis Donaree Bankhead and Leona McMullen. June married James Elliott Garner August 19, 1950, in Corpus Christi, TX. June is preceded in death by her husband James; her parents, Otis and Leona; siblings, Mary Katherine Magee, Margaret Ella Bankhead Compton, Bobbie Jean Tagg, Lawton Bankhead, William Arthur Bankhead, Juanita Boren, and a baby girl that passed at birth; and half siblings, Larry Bankhead, Jerry Glen Bankhead, Sr., Gary Wayne Bankhead, and Linda Carol Fulcher. June is survived by sons, James Edward Garner of Poughkeepsie, NY, and Richard Evans Garner of Jupiter, FL; daughter, Ann Jones and husband, Edwin of Carrollton, TX; eight grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; half-brother, James Kenneth Bankhead and wife Judy of Granbury, TX; half-sisters, Donna Rhea Ballard of Oglesby, TX, Wanda Maybell Toten of Cleburne, TX, Elizabeth Ann Honea and husband Eddie of Clifton, TX, Barbara Kay Salazar of McGregor, TX, Joyce Fay Beadle and husband, Tim of Clifton, TX. June enjoyed decorating her home for each season and holiday through the year and entertaining her friends. Her Christmas party was much anticipated by the ladies in her Sunday School class. While she lived in Aubrey, she attended a Seniors’ exercise class each Monday and loved going out to lunch afterwards with her friends. She was a faithful member of her church and attended the Ladies’ Missionary Bible Study each month and took delight in providing a special dessert for the meetings. Throughout her life, she loved baking pies and cookies and giving them to everyone who visited her. This was her ministry to her family and friends. Her coconut pie was the best! It was her husband, James’ favorite and made it for his birthday every year even though she wouldn’t eat coconut in anything! During her marriage to James, they took summer vacations to visit family members in Colorado, New York, Tennessee and Georgia. She would plan interesting site-seeing excursions on these road trips and would often stop to look through antique shops for “diamonds in the rough”. She has many souvenirs and collections that she started from these trips. In her later years she was unable to travel, and always said that Ireland, home to her Bankhead ancestors, was the one place she wanted to visit, but never made it. Visitation will be held Sunday, January 5, 2025, at 4:00PM at Slay Memorial Chapel in Aubrey, TX. A graveside service will be held Monday, January 6, 2025, at Post Oak Cemetery 2550 FM 1996 Oglesby, TX, at 2:00PM with Jeff Bankhead officiating.
